New here, the season is upon us!
« on: September 15, 2016, 08:48:02 PM »
Hey guys, I am new to this site, however I have been reading it for a few years! I have been hunting Washington for 3 years now, formally Idaho. The last two years I have had good luck! (For deer). Anyway, I would yet again like to try a new area and keep exploring this state. Sinlahekin is calling me, I don't know why, being as I've never been up there, though I have read that it is a crowd. It seems that most areas are, however I have legs and like to use them! I was wondering if somebody could help educate me with their recent experience. I would like a Muley this year! I am not opposed to any place, just looking to keep getting out into great terrain, and enjoy a hunt! Thanks!

Welcome Tony!  We've been waiting for your first post - what took so long?

Sadly,I've got no mule deer help for you, but would love to see some pics of your past successes.  Good luck this year.

I see you live in gig harbor, save yourself the drive and hunt blacktails here on the wetside!

Sinlahekin is very popular for the late archery hunt around Thanksgiving.  The deer migrate to that area when snow pushes them out of the high country to the West.  The areas up off the valley are pretty steep and you'll be on the move most of the time.  The rut coincides with the late archery season, and it gets busy.  Weather is a big factor.  It can be cold and windy and nasty, and the deer will be down low.  It can be warm and sunny, and you've got to go high for them.  Lots of public land around.  I would not spend much time in the valley unless you're looking for white tails.

I don't know what impact the fires have had as I did not hunt it last year.  I've heard a lot of bucks were taken out of there last year, but most were during modern firearm, before the deer migrate down towards the valley.

I do like the blacktail hunting for high buck, but when you spend all year in the olympics is nice to go to the dry side! Thanks for the info guys! I may venture up that way, may get a wild hair and go somewhere else, there's a lot of land to explore before I find my spot!

Although high buck hunts are a blast, that's not what I meant. I meant you should stay in Kitsap. There's great deer here too. I've seen more deer this year then my whole life combined (I'm 16 so that doesn't say alot). Still though, why compete with people when you can shoot a bruiser in your back yard?
