Rutted up glands or injury??
« on: October 31, 2016, 10:13:13 PM »
So, curious what everyone thinks.  Tonight's buck has this large area on the hind leg by the gland that is swollen way out of shape. I thought it was just the result of him rutting.

Home in the barn skinning, I discover that it is only on one side, the other leg is normal.  There are no outward signs of injury or healed over wounds.  Leg is solid, he was moving with no limp or other difficulity...at least before the .30/06 bullet took off part of his heart... :chuckle:

Anyway, just wondering if there were any thoughts as to what might be going on with him.

Hmmm.  I am no expert, but human lymph nodes and glands get plugged all of the time.  That's what it looks like to me, especially because it is only on one side.

Eat it, you will be fine.

Probably some sort of injury. Is the swollen part pliable or does it feel like bone healed up? Would be interesting to see a pic of it skinned out.

Very pliable, did not skin them out, stopped just below them.  No indication of injury, either old or new.

Was moving just fine, at least right before the bullet hit him anyway..  :chuckle:

Little rutty smelling on those inner glands, but neck was not as big as some I have seen.  I think pd is probably right about the swelling of the glands in the leg.

I may see about peeling more skin back later, if I do will post follow-pics.
