Picked up my latest project this past week, thought I'd post some photos. Nothing fancy, just upgrading an old rifle. JES Reboring was able to keep my old barrel and re-bore to 35 Whelen. My gunsmith cerakoted the metal for me in matte black, and I decided to refinish the stock with oil rub finish and try to darken the stock. Didn't get quite as dark as I hoped (was a blonde colored stock from factory) but definitely better than what it was and I really like the feel of the oil rub finish. Came in right at 8lbs w/scope and sling (8.06lbs). It shot <1" as a 30-06 with factory loads, and still shoots <1" at 100 yards with the 35 Whelen Nosler factory 250 grains (off lead sled). Next up is to work up some reloads with Speer Hot Core 250 grain bullets, as factory ammo is spendy. Then decide what caliber and action I do for the my next project which will be a complete custom build (now that I have medium bore out of the way it opens up my choices for that).
