.500 S&W from the Gun Fairy!
« on: March 26, 2017, 08:42:20 PM »
I am excited, I have a 6.5 inch S&W .500 Mag coming to me from the Gun Fairy. I still am waiting for my Background Check. Pro-Tip: It sucks to have to wait for a pistol you paid $940 cash for.

Anyways, I fired the 2 or 2.5 inch before.... it was a wrist breaker. That's why my carry gun is a Tarus in .38 Special instead of .357 Magnum.

I am looking forward to loading up some stuff from Lehigh Defense with the 240 grain .500 round. Supposedly it will send it out over 2000 FPS.
That's a horrible idea.

What time do you want to meet up?

The 500 is a great round. My buddy has one and I have put more then a few round down range with it. Its a solid shooter and really loves the hornady tipped bullets. Think they are 325g? He has the longer barrel model. I am sure you will have a lot of fun with it you can always tame recoil with power and bullet choice.

Ummm, you chose a .38 instead of .357 in 2 or 2.5" and thought it was a wrist breaker... and you are looking at shooting the 500 S&W?

Better beef up those wrists.

I have heard GREAT things about the Hornady 300 and 325 grain bullets as well. In general, I think Hornady makes pretty darn good ammo and offers GREAT reloading products for almost all calibers. My Nosler reloading book stops at .45-70  :chuckle:

I have no issues firing a full length .357 mag... It's just those snub-nosed air light .357 mags that are wrist breakers.... I don't know anyone who wants to shoot cases of ammo of those for fun - just like I do not know of any "great gun control legislation that makes sense". That is about as rare as a snubbie .357 mag that is fun to shoot.

Maybe plan B: Hit the gym  :'(

I have a 4in. S&W 500.  They have a pretty good amount of "heft" to them which helps tame down the recoil but you definitely know you're shooting a hand cannon because they are thunderous to shoot and definitely pegs the fun meter.  I was shooting mine one time and there was an old steel truck wheel we were shooting.  It shot right through that steel truck wheel like it was paper and the size of the holes were almost laughable because they were so BIG!
