.308 questions
« on: May 31, 2017, 07:34:37 PM »
So I just picked up a blr in .308. I'm looking for good factory ammo. This will be primarily a backup rifle mostly carried in the truck while grouse hunting or as backup while accompaning other hunters, don't need a long range load more of a mid range load but one with authority. Any suggestions?

My Howa really like the Hornady Superformance SST's in 165 gr. Have only shot one deer with them, it made it about 2 steps and flopped. I'm sure there may be better, but I haven't played too much with different options.

Old school 180gr Round Nose, hard to beat them under 200 yards
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

2nd what AWS said, 180 gr Remington Cor Lokt.  Cheap, accurate and the most deadly mushroom in the woods for 80 years

If just medium range is the goal for a backup gun, then here's another vote for the 180gr CoreLokts.  Within 200 yards will do the job on deer, bear, or elk, and only $20/box.
