Knight Ultralight Breech Plug/Nipple

I bought a couple of Ultralights for me and my son.  We went up to the woods to shoot today.....and that's when I noticed that it took musket caps!!!  I've always believed that #11's are the way to go here on the wet side. 

We went to Bob's in Longview to try to buy new nipples, but the guy pointed out that the musket cap nipples we have were "offset" so a straight swap to a #11 nipple might not work.  So we bought a bunch of Musket Caps.  They said that's mostly what they sell because they are hotter. My concern is water proof-ness. But the musket caps do seem to fit pretty tight on the nipple

Can I swap the nipple to a #11? What's with the "offset" thing for musket caps?

I'm not sure about an offset, but I've swapped the nipples back and forth, as long as you get the right threads, both work well in my wife's ultra-light.

I've used #11 caps on my Ultralight with no problems.

Swapped on my K-UL as well.  Should be just unthread one and thread the other.

Because of the diameter of the Musket cap and the diameter of the firing pin in a Knight - Knight designed the off-set to grain better ignition of the cap.

I really do not like several aspect of the Musket cap so I use the #11 style cap and a regular style #11 nipple on my U-Lites.

I appreciate the replies.  I looked in the rifle boxes and found plastic bags....with #11 nipples in them....(duh) lol.  So I put them on the rifles and we went shooting.  I fired around 10 and had 2 mis-fires  (my son had none).  Both times the #11 cap was half smashed but didn't go off, but ignited both times after re-cocking.   (dynamit Nobles)

Anything I can do about that?

yes you probably can... the Nobles are metric instead being a true #11 they are 10.75 so they do fit a bit tighter.  As the nipple gets dirty it thickens so it makes it more difficult for the tight nipple to be pushed down by the hammer.  Probably if you were to keep the nipple stack clean after multiple shots every thing would work fine. I usually just wipe it with a damp Windex patch.  This for me is only a real problem at the range - hunting not a problem.

Another thing that I have seen that causes the problem is if the cap is not place squarely on the nipple post - if it is canted off a bit it will often fail to fire the first time until the hammer squares it up.

The one good thing is if the nipple is placed on correctly and tight - it becomes nearly and for all intents - water proof.

Using a CCI Mag #11 you probably would never have a problem.
