Pheasant Release
« on: September 16, 2017, 09:16:55 PM »
I've been out of town for a couple weeks and can't get on the WA Dept of Fish & Wildlife Page.  When does the Pheasant season begin?  Youth season?  Over 65?  I think that the "south" area of Scattercreek Wildlife area is going to be closed, but how about the "north" area?  Thank you for the info.  Diane

The regular season in E. WA is October 21- January 15.

Besides the WDFW website; hard copies are at most sporting goods stores and even Fred Myer and Walmart.

No birds will be released at Scatter Creek South. Those birds will be distributed among other nearby sites. With the added pressure on the north unit, even/odd days will be enforced more strictly.

Why no release on the south site?

Because it burned up and there's little cover left.

I realized that fact, but I added the E. WA Opener; to perhaps keep a few of our fellow viewers from taking the "When does Pheasant season begin?" as a statewide answer. No slam against Bobcat or you is intended by either of my posts.

Since we are on the subject of the E. WA Pheasant Opener, for years I've seen hunters in Blaze Orange on the Waterfowl Opener; when questioned, "Oh we're hunting pheasants". When informed of the actual E.WA Pheasant Opener a week later, the reply is usually, "Oh...When did they change that?"My point in this small rant is that a portion of our hunting public never get a hard copy of the regs. or visit the "Seasons" portion of the WDFW website. Their source is hearsay in one form or another.

What is the cover like in Scatter Creek north? Last time I looked at it, it seemed pretty tall and brushy.

Brush can be tall. Scattered trees and bushes but not a lot of "edges". Pretty much a large open field. Filled with hunters.

Add to that JBLM has increased the cost from $10 to $50 per year to register and it is going to be extremely crowded at the other sites.
