Sweet deal - American Rifle Company's new Nucleus Action!
« on: January 28, 2018, 12:36:14 AM »
FYI. Some of you might be interested in this. The maker of the Mausingfield action has his new nucleus action on a pretty sweet pre-order deal through tomorrow only. Ted probably makes the finest actions on the planet, and lucky us, he's right here in WA!

What do you need toroidal bolt lugs for?

I actually put a deposit on one a couple days ago.

Aesthetically, the ARC actions look pretty odd; you have to look at them from a “form equals function” standpoint. When you have a chance to play with a Mausingfield in person you realize that every aspect of it was designed for functionality first and looks second. The bolt knob design is definitely out there but it really does work better than a regular ball type knob. I’ve spoken with Ted from ARC on multiple occasions and the way he thinks and designs his products is truly facinating. To call him a polarizing personality is an understatement though. A buddy of mine spent a day shooting with Ted and can’t stand him and wont have anything to do with the Mausingfield action because of that.  :chuckle:

I’ve been wanting to build a rifle on a modern long action CRF action for a couple years but just couldn’t find one that I reall wanted. I love the Ruger M77 Hawkeye action but you can’t buy just an action and the aftermarket support (triggers/stocks) just isn’t there as well as a relatively short mag well. I looked at the Montan 1999 action but I wasn’t impressed. Same goes for the FN/Winchester actions. The Bighorn TL3 isn’t a real CRF ( controlled round push feed poser....  :chuckle:). I’ve been seriously looking at the Mausingfield but I just didn’t want to drop $1600 on the action.

I figured that for roughly half the cost ($850) of a Mausingfield I can try out the Nucleus action on the next project. I doubt that I’ll see the action until mid summer even though they’re saying mid spring delivery. That would give me time to figure out what exactly I’m going to build.

I'm really interested to hear what you guys think about the action once you get some quality time with it.  I read about the Mausinfield several years ago. I love the idea of combining all the strengths of different makes into one action.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Ted reminds me of some kinda mad scientist.
I don't think the Nucleus is as pretty as the Mausingfield, but it might actually be better. I like the 70 degree bolt throw too.

It looks like it might work well but it is only suited to a Tacticool/target rig.  I'm to old to hunt with an ugly gun.  And I thought Savages were the lower end of ugly and as far down as I'd want to build on.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

The bolt knob is easily swapped out to a different style. I don’t really care for the look of them either, but they do function extremely well and just as they were intended to.
