Went swimming
« on: March 06, 2018, 04:26:06 PM »
Want to go fishing at a local lake of mine. I have to self lunch because I’m the only one able to go at this time. Which is no big deal I do it quite often so it’s pretty basic anymore. This time I had a good brain cramp. When I went to hook the leash onto the trailer for when I backed down the boat.  It came unhooked and I launch the boat into the lake with no leash.  I ended up having to chase the boat down got everything wet from my phone to my Wallet to me all the way up to my chest. But I got the boat. caught my breath figured it’s time to go home since it was so warm this morning. I think it was about 40° I don’t know what the water was but it wasn’t very warm. :chuckle:  I still don’t know what I was thinking when I  hook the leash to the trailer. I usually use the winch strap and hook onto the Eye hook that way. For some reason I didn’t And wasted a beautiful day. Dana tells me I should sell the boat. Because one day I’m gonna drown. LOL

Been there done that, LOL
Kind of ruins your day.
Now, after I disconnect the trailer chain and strap, I tie the "20ft bow line" to the strut of my canopy.
That way I can walk the boat down the dock or beach it while staying dry then I go park.

Yeah, another tip is to not have multiple ropes sitting in the bow that can be confused for the one actually tied to the boat.

I kind of wonder why people do this in general unless you have a big boat that is hard to push off the bunks or rollers?  I guess it looks cool when done correctly, but I have seen people lose their boat, run/slide their tow rig into the water, hit other boats, and have their boat bounce back and hit the trailer. Is it that hard to stand on the tongue and release the winch before pushing off?

It is good for a laugh sometimes though :chuckle:

It's the only way I can get my boat off the trailer by myself sometimes.  Most ramps aren't steep enough to get it totally floating without dunking half the truck, so I back and tap the brakes and it slides right off.  It isn't a crazy maneuver, just a slight tap on the brakes at the right time and it's off.

If you have a light boat, a roller trailer or a steep enough ramp, it's certainly not required.

Not trying to be a smart arse here but I AKWAYS put the boat in the water and then unhook the chain and strap, if I am by myself I tie the bow to a mooring cleat and then back up and nail the brakes and the boat slides off just tight every time , I almost tried cutting corners onece but decided not to, had I unhooked like I was going to I would have dumped a 200,000 dollar boat off on the launch about half way down  :yike:

I've seen that one happen, very painful to watch.

I do wait until I am in the water to unhook the boat and tie it off, but onetime in the dark I forgot to tie it off and another time I tied off the wrong rope.  Yet another good reason for me to not have a $200k boat.

Back in my beer drinking days we use to go watch people launch their boats and hold up big score cards on how well or crappy they did, oh man it was good fun, I miss those days  :chuckle:

That's funny jackmaster  :chuckle:

The way the boat and trailer are set up. The leash hooked to the trailer is the best way for me to launch. Except the other for day  :chuckle:.

What's funny (or sometimes not so funny) is that men have a certain body part that is good at identifying the temperature of water.
The colder the water - the more embarrassing the temperature gauge.
It is what it is......

All I can envision is George Costanza yelling, "I was swimming! The water was cold!"
