Suppressor for hunting rifle

I have been doing some research and wanted to see if you all had any advice.
I have a kimber mountain ascent in 7mm mag.  I am looking at the silencerco harvester.  Anyone have any experience with this can?

Right there with ya. Having a 7mag built right now and would like to have a suppressor on it for next year.

I shot the harvester on a 260. Did exactly as advertised. Recoil reduction along with sound.

The negative I find with the harvester is the 9” length. I’ve been looking at the Omega with a 7” length.

That’s about all of my experience so far. But would love to save my ears for the rest of my life!

Joe-  I have a Harvester in jail right now.  Got a really good deal on it from West Coast Armory a couple of months ago.  You may want to ask if they have any more. I wish they had omitted the non-removable brake to keep the length down, but the whole package is still really light and the brake is supposed to be effective. If I had it all to do over again I would have gone with a lightweight direct thread like the the Harvester instead of the Specwar which is ridiculously heavy and requires an $80 muzzle device for each host. 

The mountain ascent + harvester would be a great combo.

elkh8me, the Mountain Ascent has a pretty thin barrel, not saying it won't work just fine suppressed, but it may warrant some research or a call to SilencerCo about thin sporter barrels. I have a Harvester and it is a very good suppressor, but at least look into the Ultra 7 and Ultra 5 from Thunder Beast. I have an Ultra 7 and have been very happy and impressed with it. Another suppressor that looks interesting is the Brevis from Delta P, the price tag on their website is a bit scary, hopefully actual prices are a bit lower.

I have an Omega that I have used on 4-5 different rifles and for sport shooting it is great. For hunting  , not overly impressed with the sound reduction vs. the added length n weight. Have not noticed an increase in accuracy or decrease in recoil vs. a normal break. FWIW I will continue to hunt without the suppressor and carry ear plugs...

Serious question,Isn't using a suppressor still illegal in WA.?If legal to use,Do you have to get a license to buy/and use one?

Legal for use and hunting, need only the NFA tax stamp to purchase.

That's good info to have, it was on a list of suppressors I wanted to check out. I want hearing safe'ish, and recoil reduction. Sounds like the omega might not be for me.

My experience with shooting my stuff suppressed is they do a very comparable job of recoil reduction but not quite as good as a well designed brake. 

Shooting suppressed rifles can somewhat trick you into thinking the recoil is a lot less than shooting the same gun with a muzzle brake because they are so much quieter so they kind of fool your senses a little but having shot many of my rifles both ways, I'd have to say a good quality muzzle brake tames recoil a little better than a suppressor.

Suppressors are great and IMO make shooting more enjoyable but they certainly aren't perfect.  They add a good amount of length to your gun and even though some of the newer cans like the TBAC Ultra suppressors are very light, for a suppressor, they still add at least 10+ ounces to your gun and though they do a really good job of suppressing muzzle blast, they are not "movie quiet".  All of my guns that I shoot suppressed are hearing safe without ear protection, which makes it really nice, but when you are shooting at a range, not everyone is going to be shooting suppressed so you're back to wearing ear protection but eliminating muzzle blast, especially a large magnum with a muzzle brake, is really nice.

Also, keep in mind, suppressors generally have a significant affect on POI, from a bare barrel to when you have it screwed on the end so if you plan on shooting your rifle with it on sometimes and off others, you'll want to have all that figured out with your scope settings.  Your top quality suppressors will have no problem holding the same POI when you take them off and put them back on but they definitely won't have the same POI shooting with it on versus off.

I have a Kimber Adirondack (18” barrel) with a Silencerco Omega on the end. First time I took the suppressor off to see what the difference was like, I scope checked myself. It is worth it. The recoil reduction is amazing. The harvester is a great can. I think you will be pleased. PM me if you want to know more.

The copy of the stamp and info must with you when using it. I had both of mine shrunk down, laminated and I carry in my wallet., Cell phone picture of it might work too.

I don't believe that you are required to carry a copy of your tax stamp everywhere you go with your suppressor.  You are required to retain proof of registration and make it "available to the Secretary upon request."

I believe the Secretary they refer to would be Steven Mnuchin (Treasury)
