I mounted my cheap plastic holster that came with my XD inside the center console of our Durango, and use a Gun Vault handgun safe under the center console on my Ram and Dakota.
And I use an Sherpa II, attached to the side of my tunnel cup holder for driving.

I have never had a LEO of any type in WA State make any mention of such with a  loaded handgun of mine laying on the the center consul (Got it right that time Jack🙃) or in the passenger seat.  Last stop several months ago. Loaded Sig Sauer “Scorpion” laying in the passenger seat. Loaded, hammer back, safe on. State Trooper stopped me for 10 over. Approached from the passenger side of the truck. Since my truck is taller, he didn’t have a view of the handgun without making a particular effort. As I rolled the window down from my side. I pointed to the handgun. He then made a effort to look. Asked if it was loaded, I said yes. He then asked if I minded if he unloaded it. I said that was fine.

He then opened my passenger door. Removed the mag from the pistol, ejected the chambered round, Locked the slide to the rear. Left the handgun, round and mag on my passenger seat. I handed him my license, registration and insurance. He went back to his vehicle, ran me for wants or warrants. Came back to the truck handed me my paper work and such. Told me he wasn’t going to give me a citation and told me to enjoy the rest of my day.

Fast forward a week. East Wenatchee police office initiates a stop on me while entering a local bank parking lot. Come to find out my tabs were expired. Same handgun was loaded laying on the center consul. The officer aproched me from the drivers side. My wallet was laying beside the handgun, I let him know that. He asked if I minded exiting the vehicle and he would get my wallet for me. I said no problem, step out of the truck. The officer retrieved my wallet that was lying beside my handgun and handed it to me. I then handed him my license. He ran my name on the radio he had on his person.  Handed me my license back and said I needed to get me tabs taken care of. I told him I would deal with my banking and renew my tabs shortly after that. He said “Have a nice day” and was on his way.

Anything larger than my Glock 43 gets put into the door pocket when I get in my truck.
Also any time I’m taking a long trip there is a loaded full size in my door pocket. (In states that allow it of course  )

The way that one is written is so horrible.  I've had many conversations over the years with different people and they always seem to split on the exact meaning/intent.

I've never had a problem tucking it in the seat right next to me.  Every encounter with law enforcement personnel has told me that it's fine as long as I'm in possession my license.   

Now back to the OP's topic of this magnet.  I've seen this before and always wondered if it would scratch the finish.  Another question was if you were to get into an accident would your weapon come loose and be a 2 1/2 lb flying object in your car?

(2)(a) A person shall not carry or place a loaded pistol in any vehicle unless the person has a license to carry a concealed pistol and: (i) The pistol is on the licensee's person, (ii) the licensee is within the vehicle at all times that the pistol is there, or (iii) the licensee is away from the vehicle and the pistol is locked within the vehicle and concealed from view from outside the vehicle.

The previous Attorney General of WA ruled on this several years ago. If you have a CPL it can be anywhere in the vehicle.

And for those of you getting your info from a LEO. Doesn't mean its accurate. Most law enforcement do not understand WA law. State Patrol and some Sheriffs Departments are well trained. Most local cops not a clue.

The best understanding of WA law is found on opencarry.ord forum. Those guys know it in and out.

I've also been pulled over while weapon in truck & not on my person. Officer saw my CCP when I pulled my DL. said you packing, I said yes, He said where is it, In the back seat. End of story. oops still got the ticket for lane change, I crossed 2.

I believe you're incorrect, according to the wording of this section:
