Have you looked at the KelTec SUB-2000?  They're not very pretty either but they are kinda fun to shoot.

Flat Fact there...and I have one set up for S&W mags from my 5906/915....its in a bag of good to get me home.

Also have a Beretta CX-4 Storm Carbine...its heavy but a gas to shoot and shares mags with my B-92F.

I looked a the Ruger, but it meant yet another magazine type (and I would have to get a pistol for a partner too)....

The only handguns I own are a .357 revolver and a .22, so that wasn't part of the equation.

Finally got to the range and boy is this thing a blast to shoot. Took 3 shots at 25 yards and made a sight adjustment, then put five 17 round mags through it. The last two mags were shot by a couple teenage kids from my daughter's class that I was shooting next to, one of which was shooting for the first time, thus the outliers (or at least I like to think it was them and not me!) First time shooting with a red dot and it's pretty cool.
I foresee a lot of beer cans meeting their demise in the near future!

What about the mech tech uppers turning your glock, 1911, or S&W into a carbine?

They are great. But if you don't already have the pistol, it can be cheaper just to buy a carbine.

True, I looked at it from the standpoint that if you built an 80% lower for the Glock or 1911 you could have 2 guns with the same mags and feel. I thought i read some where they were going to try and do an XD80% in the future..

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

My buddy bought one just recently, we shot it before Christmas at the range. Very nice. He put a red dot on it and even I could drill the target well with it.
