Emergency Trout Trip within an hr.+/- of Tri-cities?
« on: April 01, 2019, 05:32:14 PM »
I say emergency as my wife just got some really bad news and I can't in good conscience leave to camp for several days with my nephew and leave her alone.

I had planned on going to Tucannon tomorrow for stocker trout with my 9 yr old nephew who is on spring break. I don't want to disapoint him, and I won't leave my wife alone. She works days, so we could go fishing all day til about 2:30ish. He wants to catch trout, I had thought about possibly quarry pond or that other one by big flat. I havent been out there for trout in years, so if there is another place that would be a better bet to put a new young fisherman on trout I would love to hear it. Of course he would be thrilled to catch any fish, so if you think we could hit the bank somewhere else for another specie I'm all ears (or eyes I guess this is a text forum).

Either way and regardless I am thankful for any advice you can lend me!

Big Flats/Dalton Lake out off Kahlotus Highway just got stocked with trout and has some spiny rays as well.
Dear Lord keep me humble in the harvest and accurate with my choices.

Catfish is picking up at wallula gap, just a short drive away. Also prespawn small mouth are staring to bite down there as well. Popular spot with easy access is madam Dorian park at junction of 12 & 730.

They were supposed to have stocked the youth only pond in Columbia park. Not ideal but an option.

Too bad wellsian pond isn’t around anymore. Used to be where the Richland Fred Meyer is.

Pampa pond is about 90 minutes away. WDFW lists what lakes have been recently stocked.

If you guys can walk a mile on a flat rd, Powerline lake out past Mesa was just planted on the 25th , always some good Triploid carryover to be caught.

Not the greatest shore access though. Steep in spots.

Last few times I went to Dalton it was a disgusting mess. That place gets abused by the people.

I was actually at quarry pond this weekend it was very slow for the three hours we were there.  No fish for us or anyone else.  Only saw a few fish jump.  It has good bank access and is relatively close though.

Thanks for the info, we wound up heading out to Dalton after getting pointed there by some fellas. We had a good day, caught 1, lost 3, saw 5 others caught between about 15-20 people. Not much action but any day fishing you know the rest. I'll give quarry a try as well, it's funny, once a kid see a trout for the first time fishing, suddenly their lifelong and avid trout fishermen! I'm just happy he is eager, can't beat that anyday.

I’d recommend dalton lake I was out there last Friday with my little brother and a cousin and we caught our limit in less than 2 hours it does get super crowded and you will be fishing shoulder to shoulder we had jealous people who weren’t catching anything  crossing our lines to get there’s into where we where casting ours into it caused several entanglements but at the end of the day we did leave with a stringer full of fish.
