Propane Fired Forge Question
« on: March 26, 2018, 07:54:15 PM »
I am building a propane forge and was wondering if anyone who has one would post a picture of  where the burners are positioned?  I am using a 7 gallon propane tank for the forge.  I am, at least right now, thinking of cutting it in half longways and hinging the top half with a door in the front and one each end.  Thanks

I've watched a few youtube videos that are fairy straight forward.  I've got a large acetylene tank that survived a shop fire I want to make a 3 burner forge out of.  A lot of it looks like basic hardware stuff.

Thanks Ghost Hunter.
I have some ideas for the burner locations, but it will be awhile before I get to work on it.

Gramps do you do Facebook?  If so there is an outstanding Facebook page dedicated to building forges.  Lots of great information on their page.

Thanks Fred.  I don't use facebook.  I am going to make it out of fire brick with an external frame of angle iron instead of the propane tank.  Much easier and will suit my limited needs.

I had a forge like that at school and used a weed burner to fire it. Worked pretty good even if it was kinda hillbilly.

Did you get the forge built? I am a little scared of this thing. I need to coat the Cerafelt with something to ease my worries. But it sure gets hot.

Directly on top, or at that angle like the picture shows is what I have seen.  If you are stacking everything with fire brick so the inside is square than the top center line would probably be best
