Island Park Idaho.

I was just wondering if anybody out there has hunted any of these units, it looks like they are spike only for the OTC tags, but you can hunt deer and elk at the same time? I was thinking with the spike only rule in those units that hunting pressure would be light in comparison to other areas.

It's a popular spot and there's a fair amount of pressure. Kind of a zoo actually.  The difficulty is that the herds can be anywhere since there is food in abundance everywhere with pretty easy access to water sources. They get pushed around quite a bit with ATV/UTV's and lots of dudes randomly calling (at least during the rut when I was there last year).

If you're planning on hunting with archery gear, ABSOLUTELY take a potent sidearm since there are grizzlies in the area.

I hunted this tag for archery last year and Yes I saw people hunting with the ATV but there is room for everybody. We did not have any problem with the ATV because we were off the road all the time. I think that the tag you have should be fine with the rifle. And yes have bear spray we saw Grizzly Bear tracks in our boot tracks in one area we hunted. Let me know if you want more info.

A friend of my son's was attacked by a griz in that area when he was spring black bear hunting, he had to shoot in self defense, it was investigated by IDFG and he was cleared. There is a pretty healthy population of grizzlies in that area, pack a good sized pistol and be smart, especially if you see a sow with young!
