First time hunting - GMU 667 Skookumchuck
« on: June 12, 2020, 02:18:26 PM »
First time hunter and looking to scout local. Was interested in GMU 667 Skookumchuck area, in the public land just South of Alder Lake. Any tips on entry points and where to park my car? As I stated, new to hunting and really novice here. Able to put tens of miles on my boots, just need tips/help on how to get started. Feel free to PM me for any help.

Not sure what "south alder" means to you but a weyco Vail permit would allow access to much of it.  Pleasant valley?  Lagrande?
MAGA!  Again..

Some USFS roads cut west off of highway 7, haven't spent much time in there but believe they can get you close to the south side of Alder Lake.

667 is mostly vail tree farm which without an access pass you wont be able to access it.  there is some other land you can hunt on the fringes most likely if you are stuck on that unit.  You may be able to still buy a walk in pass for vail if they are not sold out yet.

I hunt there almost every year.  Plenty of public access off Highway 7 between Elbe and Morton... You've got to be willing to put some miles on though, because it's all gated.  Big unit, and STEEP.  There's also a NF road that goes for quite a ways toward Ladd pass, which you can drive on.
