Strawberries as Cam Bait
« on: September 26, 2020, 05:03:41 PM »
I got a cheap trail cam to play with and decided to set it up out back last night. Granted I live in Sudden Valley so no hunting here, but I strapped my Tactacam Reveal to my deck. I had some strawberries that were fixing to go bad so I threw them off the deck last night and positioned them where (I thought) I would get a good view of any visitors. Nothing last night but about 2 minutes ago 4 deer came through the green belt. One clearly had the scent of strawberries on her mind and made her way right to the small pile. The others gradually dropped their ferns and started coming in. So I had 4 deer almost on my deck. Sadly, the camera was angled too high so I got butts and half a profile once.

Long story short, I like my cam. I set it to a one minute delay between shots, I might shorten that. People talk a lot about peaches and apples, but strawberries should also be an option if any of you were curious. Granted it is possible these friendly, docile (literally will stand on the side of the road waiting for traffic to stop before crossing...well a lot of them.) Sudden Valley deer would have scarfed a Totinos pizza but  they seemed drawn and quite happy to eat them.

It takes nice pics. Gotta watch fruit if your in bear country . I guess if you don't shoot em your ok. Bear baiting can get you into trouble.

They also love grapes but be careful as if your dog, or neighbors dog etc get into them it could kill em.

The more you know!
Welcome to the world of game cameras! Fun times, lots of critters in that green belt most likely you will see things you never thought were there. And if you are like the rest of us you will learn quickly about low hanging branches, blades of grass, ferns, sun effects and so many more things that cause pics to be taken. Lol.
