winchester 1300 help
« on: December 20, 2020, 07:32:47 PM »
like many of us who inherit firearms from deceased family members, they hold a very special place in our hearts. they are the next best thing to going hunting with grandpa, if indeed some of us never did. my girlfriend got her grandfathers Winchester 1300, and as with any gun, its former owner had a story. her grandfather was heavily involved with Ducks Unlimited down in southern California, and it was his passion. for reasons unbeknownst to me, and for reasons i will never understand, the best way ive heard it, was that "it was a different world she was raised in" where it wasn't a girls/woman's place to hunt. to me that is utter BS, but, was how she was raised. she ended up with his Winchester 1300, and a semi auto Remington 30-06, and she wants to hunt something fierce.

she is short, has small hands, bruises easily, but the recoil is no problem shooting full power 3" shells, and wants to hunt ducks bad.

it means alot to her to keep using the 1300, but, it isn't a good fit. its too long for her, so, im debating having the stock shortened, which isnt a huge deal, i might even just order a new butt stock and install that cut to size so if we want to go back to original, its no biggie

the thing i absolutely hate about that gun, and she has the most trouble with is the slide release. with cold hands, its impossible. its tiny. its almost non-existent, its just a small bump. it only works when your fingers are warm, its not easy to find. simply put, it sucks!

anybody know of an after market slide release? any way we can make the action of this gun more user and cold finger friendly??

it means a lot to her to keep using grandpas gun because it was one of maybe 7 things she got as inheritance, with 2 being guns and the other 5 being some of his old jackets and flannels, but nothing else, so, id be willing to put some money into making this work for her, but also dont have an issue telling her its time to find a new gun

id love some input on how to make this gun work better for her

Seek a stock maker and change the stock not cut it the stock still wont fit either, she can pass on the original gun then too.
