Lucky S.O B
« on: June 16, 2009, 01:14:38 PM »
My friend has been out of town for awhile and finally got to check out the draw results. His son drew the Sept. 21-25 rut hunt in the Cowichee with only two points. Lucky dog.
Now knowing his son has only hunted a couple of years and knows nothing about talking to the Elk I think I am going to take some time off and help him.
I know nothing about the area since it is not a place I hunt but I was looking at maps and such and from what I can tell it seems like  it is a snow dependent area. I am gonna do some scouting but do not know what to expect in sept. since I think they really are not there til the snow falls. Now I know there is always a resident herd but do not what to expect.
I figured since I will be trying to call him in a bull I might as well bring my bow in case I see a big buck, Anyone know if it is a good deer area?
Once again I cannot believe he got drawn for that hunt with 2 points..
If its brown knock it down

Sweet.......Got a buddy who has drawn the bull tag twice there!! just lucky guy i think.......shot some decent bulls and none of it was with snow.......just locate them before your season starts and you shouldnt have a problem getting into them once it does........

It has been 20 years since I have hunted there.  It was a great unit back then with lots of elk and it didn't matter about snow.  We Muzzleloader hunted there and had some chances at some monster bulls, but just didn't quite get-r-done.  Back then, it was one of the only E. Washington units open to ML, therefore everybody went there and it was way too crowded.......(I called in many hunters with my bugle :) ) I'd love to hunt there without the crowds...........your're right....your friend is one lucky s.o.b.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.
