N Cascades Bears Today
« on: August 28, 2009, 11:25:17 PM »
Pacyew and I saw two bears today. One was a chocolate bear I spotted from the ridge top. When we dropped down and went in it disappeared. Not sure if it saw or smelled us or if it just wandered off. That was 8:30 am.

We ridewalked the remainder of the morning and into the afternoon. I spotted the second bear in the same exact location of the first one. This was a black colored bear. I dropped down from the ridge and got on the bear. I passed as it as only about 175 lbs and at 5-6PM I wanted a bigger bear for the late evening work.

Great time

Nice...I was stuck in traffic for over 6 hours because I HAD to go to Cabelas today and I just HAD to begin the stinkin trip south around 2 pm! Caught traffic by Lewis & Tacoma on the way down and caught it again near Tacoma on the way back up. Does that place ever have a lull in traffic? :bash: What can I say...sometimes I let my better sense fly out the window!

On a brighter note, looking forward to a nice trip out in the morning to glass around and see what develops. Heading up somewhere in the North Cascades region myself.  Best of luck to everyone!  ;)

Maligaotr,

That area is the worst starting from Fort Lewis on I-5 all the way up the hill into Lacey.  I would tell you a back way to get there, but would probably take you just as long going around. Of course as long as I am moving and not sitting I usually don't care.

Ray,

Good luck on the bear. Let us see some pics if you get one, especially that chocolate.

Nice job on seeing the two bear, even better passing on the smaller one.

That's probably the last bear hunt of the year for me. I know I said it before but I don't have enough time to get away. The chocolate bear was probably a bit smaller than the black colored one but I will never know since I did not get up close on it. Anyway bear hunting in the mountains is fantastic. I like to carry my Pacific Yew take down in the mountains. But that's not a rule, I can be seen carrying rifles and other bows too. Anyway I think it is about prime time up high. All the berries which were partially ripe last week came in.
