i got some meat and a hide and the freezer
« on: August 31, 2009, 08:44:20 PM »
i rode my bike up to where i got my bear last year. sure enough, i spotted a bear feeding about 100 yrds below me. i was hesitant to shoot it because its a very steep hill and i was by myself. also, there was only a couple hours left of day light. i decided to check out some other area's nearby but i didnt see anything. i went back up to seen the bear and decided to take him. i drug him for a while but at the rate i was going i wouldnt beable to get him to the road before dark. so i thought that maybe cutting out the rib cage would help make him lighter. it did, but not by much. anyways, long story short. i got him to the bike. i tied his front legs around the front of the bike by the head light, and the back legs to the rear fender. and all i had to tie him up with was 2 pillow cases i keep in my pack. so i then sat on his back and road him home! which sucked... he wasnt very big. probably 175-200..

That is awesome.  Congrats.  I would have shot also.   :chuckle: :chuckle:  What did you shoot him with and how far did he go after the shot?

Congratulations.

I never understood why people haul entire carcasses around. It's a free country though so do what you like best ! Meat in the freezer is a good way to go.

Congrats.  That is an awesome story about getting the bear out.  I used to have a chevy tracker and I shot a big bodied buck one year that was way to big to fit on the back of it.  I wrapped the deer up in a tarp and sat in the back holding on to his antlers and dragging him back through the wheat fields while my buddy drove.

Congrats on the bear... still looking for mine...
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

From your post I had a Pat McManus flash back.

That's exactly what I thought. Good lookin bear, but a pic of you riding your bear/bike would have really been somethin.

Congratulations!

I think Pat McManus wrote a similar story about a deer and a bicycle...  As I recall it woke up and started pedaling!

Glad your bear did not wake up.

well i acually have a pic of it on the bike. my mother inlaw e-mailed it to me today. its not very good though.

i shot him with a 300 win mag and it droped him right then and there. right through lungs and shoulder. with the mid section being gone it acually made a nice saddle to sit in. i had to ride about 20 miles out. and about 3/4 of the way down, the "rope" i had his back legs tied together with, got caught in the sprocket. it damn near pulled the bear and me off of the bike!
