Getting High Over The Blues
« on: August 29, 2009, 10:14:02 AM »
Morning all...I have the opportunity to fly with a buddy out of Walla Walla today and if weather permits we plan on flying over the Diamond Peak/Misery country and then maybe loop down to Troy and back.  Will let you know what we see. :dunno:

Weather was fine for flying so we headed for Dayton and then up the Tucannon to Wooten.  Lots of deer along the river as always.  Saw a few Elk near the Punjab and then headed up and around toward Rose Springs.  The wheat fields and draws all the way up to the Elk Fence held plenty of deer.  Saw a few Elk along Stevens Ridge and a few more just before the Lookout on the Mt. Rd.  Followed the road up to Misery and quick spin around Diamond peak before moving over the Devil's Tailbone and the south over the ridge into the Mt. View area.  Not a lot of Elk, seemed most were lower down.  Quite a few deer up higher though.  Down accross Grouse Flats and on to Troy.  Elk along the southern edge of the forrest boundry and deer in plenty all the way to Troy.  All in all there seem to be a lot of deer at all levels, more lower though.  Elk were spotty and we never spotted a large herd.  Didn't see a lot of people but that will change this weekend.  I'm pumped and confident we can fill out tags.

That sounds like a damn fun trip!  Hopefully you took your camera.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

What surprises me is how much is there and how little attention is paid to it.  I'm told if it isn't a certain size plot it doesn't count.

Typical government.  I will be around there this weekend with my 4yo in tow.  At least they let us carry a pistol now.
