Homemade Predator E-Caller

So I was bored and decided to build a homemade e-caller .  Have never tried using one but plan on getting this one out in the woods next week.  I have downloaded about 80 different calls and a couple sequences at this point just need to figure out which ones are the best quality.   Still need to do camo but I have the base paint down.

It actually is really simple to make.  I think you could do it..  Plan on using it this weekend to try to call in a bear that I know is in the area.

I think total I have less than 50 bucks into it. The two expensive parts are the PA speaker ($17) and the amplifire ($15?) other than that not much to it other than the MP3 player which I already had.  You can use anything that has a headphone jack.  Bought the container at goodwill for a dollar and the handle is just PVC.  Here are the sites that I got my sounds from and then I use Audacity 1.3 to combine sounds and edit them. You can download Audacity at varmintal at the bottom of the pade. 

Just started doing the editing of the sounds but it is fun.  I actually plan on getting the cougar call CD from Rainshadow and including that with all my other calls.  Right now I have about 80 different sounds.  I also can use my hand calls and record them in MP3 with my cellphone and transfer them to my ipod for the e-caller.

I built a wireless e-caller from the plans on Varmint Al's website.  Works great out to about 75 yards.  I used a set of Nady 151 wireless mics.  Mine isn't as good looking as yours though.  I used an old tackle box to house mine.

Wireless was going to be the next thing I was going to look into adding.  How much did it cost for that?  You say it works pretty good?

Nice...  I just wanted mine in a single container but I used the same pieces that you have there.

Great job. It is a fun project, but becareful, you could get hooked.

You posted most of the great distress download sites, but don't discount educational sites as well. I once found some podcasts about birds that had great (and real) bird sounds. Some natural and some distress. Combine those with Audacity and they are better then most you can find.

I built one of the El Cheapo models myself and have both an MP3 player and a CD player with me when I go as I have sounds on both.  Carry it all is a small gear bag with all of my other junk.  But, I added another length of speaker wire so I could extend the sounds further away from me.  But, it works cool.

How is the sound quality?  Does it get fairly loud?

Sound Quality - It completely depends on the MP3 quality..  I have used it a couple times and it is awesome.  Looking into wireless hookup now.  Still have not killed anything with is but in the coming weeks it will happen focusing on deer right now.  It is as loud as you would want it.  If you are putting it up to your ears 5' away it hurts them.
