bolt face is different size so would need more than just rechambering

i have a .222 remington mag as well, since they dont sell ammo for it anymore i bought a die for it and started mass reloading for it. about 2 months ago i had it chrono at 3,500 fps with a 50 gr berger match varmint bullet.

Your best bet is to leave it as is or buy a different rifle. As firecrotch said it's a handloaders deal.

If the barrel is still good it's a pretty nice cartridge.  Nosler still loads ammo for it and brass is availible from Rem.  Depending on barrel length it should get 3800+fps out of 40gr's. It's pretty close match to the 223 AI.
