Weird Deer Hoofs...
« on: October 18, 2009, 06:39:25 PM »
Know a guy who killed a buck he showed me the feet on it so i thought i'd take some pictures and post em, these are the weirdest feet i've seen anyone know why there like this? I thought maybe because the buck was pretty old? The front feet were normal but the back ones are the weird ones.
Ruger brought back the .220, i just shoot it.

A kind of hoof rot is common in deer or elk that spend a lot of time in swampy areas.  I have never seen it that bad, but have seen both deer and elk with some phase of the problem.  Usually before it gets as bad as in the pic, the deer is cougar or coyote food.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Well i can say that when my friend shot this deer it was running and trotting perfectly. He scouted him before season said he never would have guessed his feet looked like that by the way he was running.

We've killed several over the years in sandy country that look like that.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Hoof rot is rampant in the SW elk herds and it seems to be spreading  :bash: when I was researching what itty bitty bit of info there is it also mentioned that some of the deer in this area are also afflicted with the hoof rot but it is more prevelant in the deer herds on the OR side of the Columbia.  I wish they would do a real study on this   :bash: :bash: I've seen pics of elk with hoof rot so bad they are missing hooves and have bone infections.  Hoof rot isn't the only cause of long hooves but it is a common one.
