Granite Falls or Darrington?
« on: January 20, 2010, 10:01:54 PM »
I've never hunted bear, but the wife says she wants a rug.  I have a buddy that used to go up to Green Mountain above Granite Falls hunting them, but he never got one.  He said that he'd see them though in the off season.  I've been thinking of going into Glacier Peak Wilderness over by Sulpher Mountain Lake and giving that a shot.  I saw some pictures that hikers took up there of the bears in the meadows and they look rather large, but just curious what you guys think.

In late summer, find berries find bears. The less people the better. You should be able to find spots a bit closer/easier to hunt.

Good luck~!

you need to find a spot with less people.  green mt gets a lot of traffic and not much area to glass any more cuts are grown.

You have to look at the regs to make sure its open or not but my father and I have both taken nice bears up off the 5000 line road out of granite falls. Long, long hike but not many people if you get back in 6 or 7 miles, farther if possible for you.

No, The last time I hunted bear up there they were logging and the road was not gated off......that's how long ago it was. I have hiked up ther many times since and seen a decent number of bear. I know of three that were absolute monsters taken a few years back.......one of which would challange the state record if he would ever get it scored.

He supplied a tooth sample to wdfw and the report card said the bear was 11 1/2 years old....just a frikin monster of a black bear.
