MARLIN 512 RIFLED SLUG GUN 12GAUGE - Are they good?
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:46:08 PM »
Looking at trading my 30.06 for one. Are they a good slug gun? Problem I see with them is you couldn't switch out a barrel and make it a bird gun again.

I used to have one and used it for deer in Maryland and Iowa. Shot quite a few deer. Accurate slug gun. More accurate that my 870 with a slug barrel.
Shot 2 inch groups from the bench. Mine liked Federal type slugs. Have heard some have had issue feeding the last round from the mag.

I think they can be bought for $225-$275 depending on condition. Not a bad gun for the money.

There are no bad slug guns - just bad slugs.  Ha Ha ..  Some truth to that as every gun seems to be different - you have to find the brand and type of slug that works well with them.

I think you're crazy to trade away that 30-06 of yours for a slug gun.
do you have a shotgun currently? if so what is it?

I have no shotgun at this time. I have 2 30.06 and only need one. I just want a slug gun that I can convert to a bird gun.

buy or trade for a remington 870. there's one in the classifieds for $200 if I remember correctly..put a hastings slug barrel on it with the cantilever scope mount and you've got both.

 :yeah:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

What kind of rifle is it? I've got an 870 I could trade. It's got a 28 inch barrel with choke tubes.

I'd trade if it was in decent condition. Let me know if you don't get any other better offers.
