Well my son Brandon just got back from Porcupine Bay this evening with a good bunch of walleye they caught in 30 to 50 feet of water using jigs. He asked me last week if he could borrow the boat, and take some friends, and I told him ok. Later this week my schedual opened up, and I told him that I was going to probably go as well, but he informed me that there wouldn't be room in the truck because there were 3 of them going. Did I mention that it was also my truck? His bait casting reel "that I gave him" wasn't working so I took it to the shop, and picked it up for him, and paid the guy $15.00 for the repair. It didn't have the line he wanted on it so I spooled it with new 8lb test I purchased last night. I told him that he would need a rod, and he told me that he had one for it so I got out the worms from the big box, and reboxed them for todays fishing trip THAT I WASN"T GOING ON and went to bed. This morning I was up at the crack of dawn and had breakfast before he showed up. Did I mention that he's married, and drove my truck to his house last week after our fishing trip because he did'nt have his car since we picked him up? When he arrived and we started hooking the boat up I noticed that the G Loomis rod that he had looked an awful lot like mine that has been missing since last year some time and said so. He informed me that I really didn't need it as I already had 2 of my own. I told him that he owed me $15.00 for the reel repair, and we hooked everything up as his friends came in the shop. After a quick chat, and lesson on how to run the motors they were off. They told me that they would be back before dark. I spent my day going to the bee keepers to order new bees as mine died this winter then came back and burned debris, moved some dirt, and scraped up some gravel with my bobcat to fill the ruts in the road. I also worked on the chicken coupe and took measurements to expand the fenced area as it collapsed last winter due to heavy snow then went to town to pick up a few tools, and some lumber I needed. At 7pm tonight I finally got a call back that they were on the way and I got back to the house after a long day just before they arrived. I was unloading lumber when they pulled up, and backed the boat into the garage. After my chores were done I went over to see how they did. Look at this one he said proudly, and hoisted out a walleye between 9 to 11 pounds plus 12 others of varing sizes that they caught. I asked him what he caught them on, and he he showed me the gulp grubs that he used all day to catch them. Did I mention that they were my gulp grubs? I asked him where he caught them from and he told me he got them on the spot that I told them to go to? He's headed home now with all of the fish to clean and eat. Boy did HE have fun today!!! And he still owes me $15.00:yike:

Sounds like your son needs a lesson in respect! My little brother did that to me all the time. Like he was wired with some sense of entitlement. It will never stop until you make it. I know the feeling of what it's like to be taken advantage of. I'm glad to see you helped your son out and that he had a good fishing trip. IMHO you need to cut him off of a while and let him pay for things himself. Once he understands how much everything costs he might show you a little more respect.

I do sense a little sarcasm in your animosity and a tiny hint of a proud father as well !!! It's awesome they were able to go because of your hard work and you will eventually be rewarded !! Keep up the hard work, at least he isn't in prison yet !!

I bet he would realy like a new motor on that boat also.

I would take a marker and write yer name on one of those seats and be sure to point it out. When ever dad wants to go just remember one of the seats is his.

My dad and I fish and hunt together allot. It's my boats and allot of the time we take my truck. I can't imagine not haveing room for him if he wanted to go and it's not even his stuff.

Well the fact is I am a proud father for all of my kids (6 boys, and 2 girls,) with the same beautiful wife. I have been truly blessed in life to be able to go, and do a lot of things, and see some awe inspiring places while doing them. Throughout the years however it has given me more satisfaction to see my sons, and daughters embrace the great outdoors, and enjoy it as much as I do. I would rather see one of them catch the big one, or shoot the trophy because I truly live through them, and their accomplishments, as well as through their trials, and disappointments. Life is an interesting thing. Like the old monarch elk that rules the mountain for a while, to the rooster that rules the roost, sooner than later another moves in to take charge, but the difference with us as dads is that we get to set back, and just smile.

   Sounds like he was raised without... ... but well taught in the fine art of acquiring equipment for cheap/free, and finding fish! Gotta give it to him for his resourcefulness, and it seems he knows what he can and can't get away with!

Ok guy here's the low down on the hoedown. the fact is that this whole thing started with sarcasm as my son and I are very close. He never been in trouble, and is very active in church, and community. He has spent his whole life hunting, and fishing with me and knows all about being a sportsman. He spent 2 years of his life on a mission in Santiago Chille for the church with money that he worked hard for working for me in the landscaping field. He's currently in college, and has quite a workload sooo when he wants to take out the boat, or the dogs for a bird hunt I let him go for it. Don't think for a moment that I'm a softy though. I make all my boys pay their dues, and I'm very competitive. When we play pool, ping pong, darts, softball, or hunt, and fish I'm trying to out do them. This makes for great competitive fun, and makes them all the better in the end. And in the end they all know 2 things. #1 that what dad say goes (within reason), and 2 When they succeed later in life then it will be their turn to TAKE THE OLD MAN HUNTING, AND FISHING. Bottom line is their all good kids which came from their mother and I spending alot of time and energy in their behalf, and our family is stronger, closer, and better for it. No success can compensate for failure in the home. P.S. the walleye he caught were at blue slide across from porcupine bay in 30 to 50 feet of water. Mabey saturday I'll see some of you there

well here's the fish (hopefully it posts right...or I'll add it later)...thanx for all the stuff dad (oh and he really had no intention of going with us, his honey-do list was a little too long...  ...   the sarcasm of his post was probably compounded by jealousy   ....by the way, I only used 1 jig all day and placed it back in the container to be used in the future...I picked up about 50 worms outside in the rain and placed them in his worm box...true he did let me borrow the truck as my Corolla doesn't have a hitch on it...YET...   but it was pretty clear, at least I thought, that as I was taking 2 buddies, that we would be full in the truck...(guess he needs to buy a new truck...just kidding  ) ....or I guess I could have told one of my friends to go home...or ride in the boat as it wasn't THAT cold...    ....but anyway, I am sure most of that is sarcasm...mostly....    but anyway, so we got out there before 9:00 am and helped our other buddies get their boat started and we took off and went across the way (and yes Fishcrazy I would like for my dad to buy a new motor for it too... for his sake of course     )    to the right on the left hand point and started fishing at about 40-45 feet of water...my first fish was a small one only about 12 inches which I tossed back....I almost regretted it...and then we worked around the corner and both me and my buddy hooked up at the same time on twin 17 inchers sweet! ...then we worked back over toward the drop-off and did another float and bam my rod  (my Dads G-Loomis he never uses...probably wouldn't like the way it feels anyway  ....)   doubled over and I set the hook, oh man its either a ...nope its a big fish!!! get the net!!! it took a while to get her in from 50 feet down but she finally came out from under the boat and my buddy netted her...She was 28 inches and maybe a 1/4 INCH but really wide, the pic doesn't do her justice ...it was awsm ...then we didn't catch anything noteworthy for a couple hours, except my buddy caught a nice 18 incher ...then we ran up the river through the narrows up by buoy 2 and found a cove and pulled a smaller walleye out of there and a nice 13-14 inch small mouth...BONUS!.....then we came back down and caught six or seven more fish all between 13-17 inches on our spot in the afternoon...about 3:00- 5:00 pm   then we headed home. all in all it was a 5 star day couldn't have been much better, except maybe if my dad was there

I'll get it to ya when i see see ya next time ...sorry,  I only had hundreds in my wallet earlier  ....are you getting the steering column on the boat this week??? or is that next week?...you are going out this weekend right?...I saw you were looking around for a new motor for it too, are you thinking a of getting 80-90 horse?...that sure would make that boat scoot faster and you wouldn't get so bored while your driving.

well, its actually closed for walleye in April and May due to the spawn....but I bet the small mouth fishing could be good...I would also bet that the end of march would be pretty sweet for picking up a pile of walleyes too...mmmmm good!...

I'm looking at 2 different 90hps right now, and found one that a boat motor repair shop is rebuilding completely. They're asking $3000.00 installed, as I may go that way as it will be like new with a 90 day warranty. So it looks like I need to sell the 50hp evenrude. MABEY somebody will read this post and, I can unload it at a bargin. And yes I'm planning to go to the arm on Saturday. I just bought 2 custom rods made of IM6 graphite, and the are lamiglass blanks from what he said. 6'6" medium action with a fast tip. I also went to walmart, and picked up a new cardnal reel for one of them, and some more 6, and 8 pound test as someone used most of mine up after I put it on his spool. :yike:Anyway I'll let you know how they do.

well To protect the  fish and to improve the quality of fishing in practically the whole state, there is a seasonal closure on the Spokane, SanPoil and Kettle River arms from April 1 through May 31. Fishing on the rest of Roosevelt Lake and the mainstem of the Columbia is open year-round. Be sure to check the regulations pamphlet to make sure this hasn’t changed. ....but I think you could launch at Fort spokane and go out on the other side of the Bridge and i am pretty sure you can fish there...???I think???....

I personally would go north towards Kettle Falls for a good bite in April - May.

I don't know yelp. There are a lot of guys including myself who have slayed the walleye on rossevelt at that time of the year. but you have to think about the spots that will hold spawing,and post spawning fish.

I always launched out of Lincoln and very seldom didn't get the boat limit. Hooked into some big ones but never landed any. My biggest to the boat was around 18inches.
