GLOCK KABOOM-Reloading for a Glock S&W 40

What I've read for reloading S&W 40 is do not use in Glocks because they don't support the case. YOU CAN GET WHAT IS CALLED, "GLOCK KABOOM" Here's a link; http://www.angelfire.com/co3/markcolo/kabooms.html

My question is, if these guns shoot factory loads, then why can I load to factory specs? Also, I've read after market barrels well work for reloads. Do these aftermarket barrels support the case better?

The problem is that there's no resize die that will remove the case bulge that is result of the unsupported chamber. You can 'hand load' to sammi spec all you want with 'new brass'. Not to mention the bulge created from firing the case in an unsupported chamber, there are proven metallergy cracks in the case where the bulge is created. And, you won't see anything in Glock print about not using lead bullets in the polygonol rifled barrel, but it is advised by many that you should not. If you install a Barsto or one of several other barrel manufactures you can shoot lead.

All that said, there are two sides of the fence to this. I know people that shoot lead, but clean often, and others that reload thier fired brass to USPSA major.

Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the cheap shot. BTW, I do own a 1911A1 and love it. My Glock shoots 1 1/2" groups at 25 yds. When I was a COP the Glock was the only GUN at the Police range that didn't stove pipe or jam not one time. Thanks for the info it was very helpful.

You might want to take a look at this die, it is made to take the bulge out of .40 brass.

This is talked about extensively over the years on the Bullseye forum. Bulge removed, the brass is still weaken'd.

Yeah, I dish the Plastic guns when I can. An accurate semi auto pistol impresses me when it'll group less than 2" at 50yds.

I've had a pair of Glocks, a 20 and a 29. I was worried about the Kaboom factor with them since I don't normally shoot factory ammo. What I did, was buy new brass and assemble moderate loads. I would then reload the brass one more time with another moderate load. After 2 firings, I discarded the brass. This worked for my plinking and practice ammo, but I bought factory if I was looking for some of the higher power loads. The odd thing is that the only case failure I had in over 2000 round fire between the 2 guns, was from a factory Hornady 180gr XTP.

If I had kept them, I would have just installed an aftemarket barrel for the peace of mind. As it turned out, a buddy of mine like them more than I did, so I sold the pair. The Dan Wesson 1911 in 10mm that I replaced them with is much pickier about what loads it will feed. That's the thing I miss the most about the Glocks. Those guns would cycle anything.

The Kb! issue appears largely confined to the .40SW.  (10mm and .45's have been recorded as well)  Just drop a $100 Lone Wolf match grade barrel into your gun (if it bothers you) and she will be good to go ... and go ... and go.  Even with the aftermarket match barrel, you will have spent $500 less than a good 1911.  As a combat handgun with extreme reliability, Glock is superior.

the 40sw is the only round i will not reload to many problems and i know to many master reloaders that have had nothing but problems in loading for theres i just buy shells when i find a good deal or on sale

1911's are so much better than a Glock.  That's why our Army uses them extensively! Oh, wait, they don't because....  Now here come the excuses.

This is a Chevy vs. Ford issue.  Everyone will have their opinion.  I've got a Glock, would also like a 1911.

Adams.. dont' go there.  Stupid people have been doing those stupid tests on guns for years. I just love Freekin 25' shot groups. Sorry, not impressed. I'm sort of .. Sort of impressed that that ANY gun functions after some of those tests. But Come'on.. Why?

A MISPEC 1911 WILL RUN AMMO THROUGH IT FOREVER WITH AMMO SPEC'D BY THE MILITARY FOR THAT SMALL ARM!

All guns need to be cleaned/maintained. Enough of this argument in this thread. The Glock will shoot Sammi spec'd ammo through it FOREVER.. , Just don't reload the brass that's been damaged.

Most, and Glock is included, gun manufactures don't endorse any reloaded ammo for their guns.  Take that!

Yes, replace the factory polygonal rifled barrel in your Glock and you won't ever ever have a problem with that gun.

I'm not a Glock guy or a 1911 guy. I'm a gun guy. I love my Norinco 1911A1 w/Wilson combat parts. It wouldn't feed hollow points so I did a little work on the feed ramp and it feeds all types of ammo.

 :)Ford has not outsold GM they have outsold Chevrolet because they do not count the GMC's. If GMC and Chev were added togfether they outsell every year.LOL
I like Glocks and 1911's. When we were issued Glocks exclusively I saw two model 21s blow at the range and several fail to feeds. Now we can carry anything we qualify with, I carry a 1911. Lots of the guys still carry Glocks.
Look at the Tacoma PD test of handguns. The Kimber procarry II did very very well compared to everything, for 1000's of rounds.
Glocks are great guns as are Springer XD'x and  1911's.
