Been doing research on this cartridge. Thinking of the Alaskan model in 375 Ruger.  Do you have one? If so how do you like it so far?
Nothing like a Remington model 700xcr.

I do have one an like what I know about it so far..the black model Alaskan. I have yet to shoot it as I just now got all my reloading stuff together for it. Going to run the 270TSX's over H414 an H4350 for the first load testing. Fixing to start loading for it tonight.

If I were to get a new rifle that's exactly what I would get. I've got a 243, 270, and a 30-06. If I ever want something bigger I figure I might as well go a LOT bigger. I think you're trying the best possible bullet first. That is what I would use in it and I also like the Hodgdon powders.

this is my first big bore rifle(unless you count a 444 Marlin I spent a little time with deer hunting in NC). But after this past hunting season a friend of mine let me try out his 358 STA I was hooked! so after a little looking around on Gun Broker I found the one I have for $650 shipped then it cost me another $25.00 in FFL fees. so 675. new in the box out the door I thought that was a fair price and jumped on it. I really like the fact that there is not much I can put down with this setup...Bear,Moose and elk look out! Anything else I do the 257 Wby will cover...

My Alaskan loves the 260 Accubond over H4350. It will always put 3 shots under an inch. As a bonus, the 270gr Hornady Interlocks hit to the point of aim out to 300 yds, and that's about as far as I plan to shoot this gun.

I have about 400 rounds through mine and have no real complaints. The stock is a little heavy, but it feels good and does a great job soaking up recoil. The iron sights are very usable, so I put a Leupold VX III 2.5-8x in Warne QR rings on there. I can take the scope off, shoot the irons, put the scope back on, and still be in the kill zone at 300yds.

As far as reloading, watch out when you crimp your bullets. The Hornady cases just don't like to be crimped. I buckled a few trying to get it right. I haven't done a lot of load development, and don't really plan to do any more.  The 270gr Hornadys are a great plinking load, and the 260 Accubonds are an awesome hunting bullet. I haven't taken any big game with the rifle yet, but I did take a porcupine at 260 yards with one of the 270 Hornadys . :chuckle: Performance was more than adequate.

Good luck with the rifle and let us know how it shoots.

Andrew

Are you shooting the iron sights, or a scope?
