Anyone ever mount turkeys like this?
« on: April 08, 2010, 05:20:42 PM »
I got to witness and photograph a pretty good turkey fight yesterday morning.   When I got home and looked at the pictures, I couldn't help but wonder if any of the HuntWA taxidermists have ever mounted two toms fighting.

Also, if you have, I would like to know if you used photos/video of actual wild toms for reference in determining the exact positioning, and created your own form in order to make it exactly like the real thing, or if you just used a commercially available form and modified it.

I think it'd be cool to do unique, one-of-a-kind mounts based on real animals behaving naturally in the wild (not captive animals).

Here are two of the images that I think would make for cool mount ideas:

I'm just waiting for the 2nd head to get back from being freeze dried and I'll be putting one together. Probably be early summer. I'll post the pictures when it's done.

Great pic's by the way!

I just realized how much space a mount like this would take.   Probably an area of at least 6 feet by 6 feet.  A huge mount it would be!

Hey Tom, excellent pictures as usual.  I have seen a ton of Pheasants fighting mounts such as the turkeys, but I have never mounted a Turkey fight like that.  I have not seen a lot of them mounted fighting because of the work and time that would be involved.  It would be tremendous. :bash:

Your right the space required for such a mount would be an issue as well. There would be a whole lot of mannikin prep and heavy heavy wire usage.  It would be cool to take on a mount like that though.  Ric I can't wait to see the pic's of the one you are going to do.  It should be cool.  Tom keep those cool pictures coming.  They are simply amazing.

John

I have done a pair that was up together fighting. I wrap all my bird bodies ( which is I make my own ) I used a lot of reference pictures and still frame video. I will have to look and find my pictures of them and post. And you're right about the space by the time the base and birds was done it took more space Than a life size deer.

Always nice to have an extra turkey to do things with, I would take one of them.

I will be over that way and can pick it up.

Thanks
