I was given a Mosin Negant so I began to modify it. Now of course the Mil-Surp gun guys castigate me for meddling with its collectable value. But that ship has sailed.
I put a SKS synthetic stock on it. Then I purchased a drop-down bolt from Rock Solid Industries. It's going to the gunsmith next Friday to have the barrel shortened by 1.5" and re-crowned.
I plan on reloading the ammunition. I'll purchase brass ammo from Privi Partisan, shoot them, then reload with .308 or .311 Sierra Bullets. I'll slug the barrel first to see just what the diameter of the bullet needs to be.
The scope mount I selected is also from Rock Solid Industries and was pretty expensive. If I had it to do over again I'd use a simple rail mount that attached to the rear sights and then machine a smaller mount to fit between the receiver and end of the rail to give it a more solid attachment.
Finally I have a new Redfield 3X9X40 scope that I'll attach to the mount
One remaining task is to clean the carbon out of the bore. I'm going to use a homemade electro-chemical cleaner to get all the carbon out.
Then I'll take it to the range and sight it in. I have spoken to several Mosin owners and after some tweeking they were able to turn the old sniper rifle into a Tack Driver. I'm hoping for the same results. This is what I'm hoping for.
