Montana prairie dog action....
« on: July 20, 2010, 09:49:05 PM »
Went to Montana for about a week.

Personally shot over 600 rounds ....family easily shot 3,000 rounds. The coyotes/foxes ate well I am sure...but the prairie dogs didnt do so well. It was great. We have family over there, miles of private land to ourselves. I missed a few yotes (dont ask :chuckle: :bash: ) and saw some protected kit foxes, monster bucks (a 5x5 with matching drop tines, in center of pic..sorry he didnt turn for me, several 4 pointers, etc) and really nice antelope. We pretty much shot flicker tails from dawn till dusk with our .17 HMR's.

When can I go back?! Enjoy the pics...the pic with me is of my first kill. The bloody smiley face on the rock which occured after one of my shots...pretty much sums it up.

I just got back from a week in Montana! and I cant wait to get back!!! uhg! makes my skin crawl how awesome that state is. spent most of the time floating the rivers and caught 100+ trout and 1 whitefish. I did get to vaporize a prairie dog with my glock- my buddy said they were not as common SE as far east. hopefully next time we'll be able to get some quality grassy knollin' in the schedule.

Awesome pics and looks like a great time.  Makes me want to head over to my familys place in Central Montana.  That first picture looks more like a gopher than a prairie dog to me?? Unless it's a small young one maybe.. The Prairie Dogs we generally shoot over there are about 12" tall and the gophers roughly 6".

That sounds like a great time. Very nice pics too, beautiful country. Only been thru MT on a trip to SD as a kid about 25yrs ago. We only made 2 stops in Butte & Missoula I think?? Anyway, would love to go back sometime again soon. Next time you head out there let me know a day in advance so I have time to pack my stuff!  :chuckle: Thats a nice looking rifle you have there too. Thanks for sharing!  8)
