Westport Family Trip Monday
« on: August 18, 2010, 09:59:51 AM »

I took my grandaughter and her boyfriend out of Westport WA Monday looking for some King salmon.
We started out int he fog about 6:40 and were unable to raise our friend Harley who launched a little later.  We followed a a Trophy boat SW past the yellow can until we figured out they were with a group heading out for tuna.

We turned NW and went out to 210', about 6 miles due west of the jetty, where we had good luck last Monday.
Very flat water day.   8-)

After losing one while I was transferring the pole grandaughter Elisabeth landed a nice king.  I hooked a big silver but we lost it at the boat checking for an adipose fin.

Things slowed down and reports from 'up north' sounded better so about 11 we pulled up and ran past the 47 line.  With 4 onboard, 22 gallons of water in the tank and 70 gallons of gas we were able to run 37 mph at 5100 RPM.  I didn't push to WOT as Judy's shoulder is still sore from her surgery 4 weeks ago.  It was flat!!!!

Kevin hooked and landed the big one for the day.

We are out about 6 miles in 210' of water and this little guy shows up and starts catching insects.  After about 15 minutes he flew off to find another boat.  Hope he made it back to shore.

After working around a group of 12 boats with no success for a couple hours except for a few pop offs from light biters - we started back SE.  I decided to clean fish knowing that doing somehting else often gets interupted.  Bandaid spotted a large raft of birds and trolled toward them.

Finally I had a solid hookup and after a couple runs away from the net we got him in the boat.

Keep 'em Straight!!! (and quiet)

Greg
