FC, that sounds like a miserable experience. I will agree that the field strip procedures for the MKIII's are about as annoying as it gets. It is not something that needs to be done too often though.
Initially I needed to do a full cleaning every 200 rounds, hot water and dish soap with a complete disassembly in the sink then dry, oil and assemble. Even at 200 I would be up to a 7 out of 10 failure rate.
In order to remove the magazine disconnect you have to either replace the hammer or make a shim for the stock one (I made a shim), the pistol really is reliable now and has always been accurate but I would recommend not buying one, get a Mk II if at all possible if you want a Ruger semi-auto 22. The amount of work that had to be done was ridiculous, I found more than one shop that offers a complete price list for accurizing and doing an internal polish job to make the stupid thing work right.
I am sure the Volquartzens are great but for the money???
I would actually like to spend some time with a Sig Mosquito if anyone local to me (Edmonds) has one that is a problem child, I am betting that I could trick one out and make it work as well as my Ruger does now. My Ruger will actually cycle subsonics now without a hitch, when new it wouldn't even cycle mini-mags better than 7 out of 10.
