FC, that sounds like a miserable experience. I will agree that the field strip procedures for the MKIII's are about as annoying as it gets. It is not something that needs to be done too often though. If you can figure out how to remove the magazine disconnect you can fore go putting the magazine in during the procedure. That is actually new to the MKIIIs and was not an issue with the MKIIs, why Ruger did this I will never understand. With the number of issues you've had I'd have recommended calling Ruger. I'm pretty sure your specimen is an example of the exception and not the rule. :dunno:

If you cruise on over to the Sigforum, you can search Mississippi Daves Mosquito guides. You can read about the misery people go through getting theirs to function correctly. I had to polish the feed ramp, get new magazines, and it shoots CCI Mini-Mags only. It struggles through federal champion and has a 50% failure rate with any other ammo. YMMV from what I've read and heard.

The best .22 pistol I have ever owned (and that's almost all of them  :o) and won't ever sell is a full house Volquartsen, talking bad about them is blasphemy.  :chuckle:

I have a Browning Buckmark and it will shoot anything I put in it. $19.99 (or less) for a box of 550 rounds of cheap ammunition and I have one happy gun. Looked at the Walther, but never at the Sig.

FC, that sounds like a miserable experience. I will agree that the field strip procedures for the MKIII's are about as annoying as it gets. It is not something that needs to be done too often though.

Initially I needed to do a full cleaning every 200 rounds, hot water and dish soap with a complete disassembly in the sink then dry, oil and assemble. Even at 200 I would be up to a 7 out of 10 failure rate.

In order to remove the magazine disconnect you have to either replace the hammer or make a shim for the stock one (I made a shim), the pistol really is reliable now and has always been accurate but I would recommend not buying one, get a Mk II if at all possible if you want a Ruger semi-auto 22. The amount of work that had to be done was ridiculous, I found more than one shop that offers a complete price list for accurizing and doing an internal polish job to make the stupid thing work right.

I am sure the Volquartzens are great but for the money???

I would actually like to spend some time with a Sig Mosquito if anyone local to me (Edmonds) has one that is a problem child, I am betting that I could trick one out and make it work as well as my Ruger does now. My Ruger will actually cycle subsonics now without a hitch, when new it wouldn't even cycle mini-mags better than 7 out of 10.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I like the little sig. Yes, it is very ammo finicky. But knowing that, it is a fun little practice gun and the ability to double as a grouse backup is nifty to. If you want one with a threaded barrel buy it that way. To get one aftermarket comes from Germany for $250. (Just the barrel.)
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.

My friend bought one for a suppresser host.Would only cycle CCI for the first 1500 rounds but after that ran good with bulk packs.
