My first Bear is a nice one!
« on: September 11, 2010, 03:38:41 PM »
This year by far was the best hunt of my life, not only because of my success and a full freezer but also because of the Rasmussen family and great company of other hunters.   I started my Hunt September 1st and on my very first day had an encounter with a big male Cougar. As I was sitting in my stand at about  4:30pm I looked over my right shoulder and saw this majestic animal moving 30 yards behind me from my right to the left seemingly not knowing my presents, there was no chance to get the bow up since it moved behind some shrubs and bushes I tried to get the revolver out but knew the chance of a shot in this position is slim, I decided on the camera to see if I can some footage but the cat was gone as fast as it had appeared.   On my fifth day of my hunt I took a beautiful chocolate colored Black Bear, 5 ½ feet about 330lbs hanging. Not much of a story, it happened very fast, I got in my stand early about 1pm not much happening that day just some Moose and does paying some visits.  I was in a dark hole and decided to clime out of my stand to have a few more minutes to hunt behind some shrub.  I set up facing an old game trail, not even sitting there for about 4-5 minutes I heard some noise coming from behind me not the trail I was facing, it turned out to be my bear coming from behind me passing me on my left, I waited for the perfect opportunity and let one fly, the shuttle t-lock broadhead did the rest.  It was late by then and Joe decided we let him lay down overnight and start tracking him at first light.  We did and after Joe found the blood trail he turned into a tracking machine and recovered my bear about 150 yards uphill :yike:.  After some very uncomfortable pics on the hill Joe started pulling this beast downhill just tied to a rope.

Congrats on your 1st bear! You'll never forget it. I got my 1st one in 2004 and it's still fresh in my mind like it just happened.

That is one hell of a hunt, congrats on both animals.

That bear looks like a good candidate for the Hunt-Wa Head Competition.

WOW, great bear!  First one or not!

Yep, first one!

What I meant was that it is a great bear, whether it is your first, or your 100th.  Any bear hunter would be proud of that bruin.  Great job!
