Why does late muzzleloader elk season open one day before deer?
« on: November 02, 2010, 09:04:29 AM »
It used to be that late deer and elk muzzleloader season started on the same day, the day before Thanksgiving. Now they have elk starting on the 24th and deer on the 25th, which is Thanksgiving. I see it was that way last year too. But why? I have a muzzleloader deer tag this year, rifle for elk. I don't work on the 24th and would like to hunt but only elk is open. Oh well, I guess I will be scouting that day and maybe try some coyote hunting.

So does anybody know why deer and elk doesn't open on the same day? It makes no sense ???

Yes but last time I emailed him I never got a response. Thought somebody might remember something from a meeting or in the proposals that explained why the one day difference in opening dates.

Oh, and by the way, I should have said that this is for the westside. Eastside has different opening dates for deer and basicallly has no late muzzleloader season for elk.
