NW MT Bull.
« on: December 03, 2010, 06:45:39 AM »
Well since I haven't posted any pics of the floppy eared critters I've killed this year thought you guys might enjoy seeing pics of my dad's NW MT Bull.  Killed it in an area we've hunted forever and not far from where my Great, Great Grandparents homesteaded back in the 1890's.  This not an area known for big bulls.  This will be Dad's first shoulder mounted elk, despite having killed lots of elk over the years, he's always killed the first legal one he saw. This is probably the one and only digital pic taken of this bull and Dad still uses a film camera!  This was taken at the Taxi shop on my brother cell phone.  Taxi who has been in Flathead Valley for 38 years scores it at 373 2/8 as a straight 6, and 386 gross with the 7ths added in.  Dad is really pretty excited about this bull, but I think he was even more excited being able to get his Grandson and Grandaughter their first elk this fall as well.  Enjoy the horn porn.  For reference, Dad is 6'2 and about 275.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

The brows are crazy long, kind a hard to tell in this pic, but they come out and basically turn 90 degrees opposite of each other. Well hell, it's just long everywhere.

Not sure what happened with them.  It kinda looks like they were so long they simply bent out as they grew out and away from each other.  Looks pretty cool when looking at it head on tho.

very cool - That bull may be in the top 3-5 bulls for the most character of bulls I have seen taken this year.  Very unique animal and a masher in doing it.

There is no broken tines at all, the 5th point on the main beam on the right horn in my Dad's hand is just bladed and squared off at the end.  If your looking at the brow tine on the bulls left antler, your looking at it wrong, it turns and runs straight at the picture taker.

To be honest I don't know how long they are, Dad has the score sheet at home, I know if the 7th tines were not scored as deductions the bull only has like 5 1/8 of deductions otherwise.  Huge bulls, no. 6points that most people are happy with and would be getting a ride to the taxidermist, yes.  Dad has always been a elk hunter, don't know that I am aware of him ever passing on a legal elk, he just likes eating them to much.  To be honest, I think if one of the other bulls in the herd had shown itself before this guy, he probably would have shot them.  Next time I talk to him I will get the measurement on those G1's and report back.

Hornseeker, sorry it too so long to get back to you, where Dad lives the cell service is very intermittent.  The right brow measures 17 7/8" the left 18 3/8".  I believe if I recall correct inside width is 51".
