2800 Badlands or Eberlestock x2

I am in the market for a new pack. I have looked back at a lot of the post, and both seem to be great. I have never spent much on a packs. But I am wanting something of quality with a frame. So i can at least haul some meat out with my first trip. Most of the time I have to get back to the rig. Just to get my big pack frame, to start hauling the the meat out. It would be nice to have already started with the first trip. So lets here it, what one do you think I would be happiest with? Both packs I can get for about 180.00. Thanks in Advance...

Eberlestock I love mine I had a badlands before there both great packs you will be happy either way it may come down to which one is more comfortable on your back

    I have no experience with the X2 but it looks like a nice pack I have used several other eberlestock and currently own a blue widow. The 2800 is a great pack ( have owned ) and offers more room " stock". ( the X2 can have a SD attached giving you more overall cargo space). Both are similar in quality and warranty. Customer service has been quicker with Eberlestock, but both have been pleasant. My  about which you will be happier with. I would have to give the nod toward the 2800, overall I have found badlands to be more comfortable than thier eberlestock counterparts. But have less adjustability. Of course only you can decide which is most comfortable for you.

I have the x2 and love it.  Had it for 2 seasons now with no problems.  I have hauled out hind quaters of elk and also 2 elk heads works great for me.  Lots of storage for gear and it breathes well on the back.  I also have the gun scabbord for it but have not tested it yet but I will be on a brown bear hunt in April.

I have never used the X2, but I do have a Badlands 2800.  The 2800 is a little bigger pack and in my own personal opinion more comfortable than the X2.  I have hauled elk quarters with my 2800 and never had an issue with it.  It will also doulbe as a great pack for any overnight or two - 4 day excursions in the backcountry as I find the X2 being difficult to fit all your gear in and keep it organized.  My vote is for the 2800.

Just a couple questions - How much are you planning to carry out on your first load of meat. A quarter of a bull? A boned out Buck? Or the smaller pieces, maybe head etc... .   Will you ever plan to use it for a couple dayer or strictly daypack?

Plan on packing at least a quarter of a bull or a stag. Once i get my main pack frame from back at camp or the rig. I won't be using this pack anymore. Its just for the convenience to carry my gear and pack something out on the first trip out. It will be mainly used as a day pack. But things can always change on a hunt. And I might stay out for a day or two if i get far enough back in. Or if the weather turns to crap and I get stuck out in it. I always carry more gear and etc then i plan on using, just in case. Most of my deer i can get out hole or at least get my big pack frame and use it.

I personally have the 2800 and could not be happier with it. It has a lot of room for everything I need and is very comfortable.  I do see though if you were a smaller person the fit may not work to well but you will need to see how it personally fits you.

   Given this info I would definitley lean toward the 2800. It offers more room off the shelf, thus is not as limiting if you end up needing an overnight pack. And the " Batwing" design IMO is AWESOME for packing quarters out.

LOL, I have read some of your posts about the draw weight on yer bow, it sounds to me like your a beast man. I know some smaller stature hunters who have had issues with the badlands waistbelt not fitting snug, doesn't sound like an issue for you. I think the eberle may offer more adjustment in this area. My experience with the eberles is they fit more like a comfy external frame, than an internal, very nice when you get a little more weight in them, but overall comfort I gotta give to the badlands. Just my  But again I have not used the x2 only their bigger packs.

  Thanks i will take that as a compliment I am just a big grade A farm boy. Right now i am sitting at 6'1" and 260lbs I need to get down to about 230lbs, by May or New Zealand will kick my butt I had to start lifting weights again to be able to shoot my beast at 83lbs Shot a few shots the other day when i got new strings and cable's from Cory at XXX. That 83lbs felt like 150lbs I appreciate the feedback.

the previous X2's like mine have frames also, but the frame was made of flat steel bar.
also the newer model has bigger pockets on the waist belt

the new (2010 and on) X2's feature a round frame tubes, instead of flat.
for more weight capacity etc.
But I had to tape my round frame tube where the pack attachment straps wrapped around to silence it. Those straps-round frame squeaked a bit.
Everything good now.

I really like Eberlestock. I have a badlands 2200 and the badlands design just holds the heat in too much. In the early season hunts you just suffer. I don't have experience with the X2 but I have a J32 and an X-1 and love them both.

My badlands is super comfortable but is not the least bit waterproof.  They sell a waterproof cover which is basically worthless.  I really like the Badlands for space and comfort but it is not the greatest pack for wet weather unless you like wet gear.

I would look into the rain cover for it as well. The x2 is the same from what i have read. Not much on stopping water. There system for a water shield seems a little more water tight. The 2800 now actually has the water cover built into a pocket on the top of the bag.  At least the one I picked up last year does and once it is out and over the pack it does a very good job.  I like that it is attached to the bag so you can't loose it or you can remove it if you want to use the pocket for something else.

my pack has held up great to rain, snow, hail and every other kind of moisture it has come across, only problem I have had is the small pocket on the hood has gotten a little damp, but no problems with the rest. my buddies X2 has had no issues with water either. Eberlestock has two rain covers for the X2 if needed.

Well thanks to all that helped with info. Just figured I would post up what I got. I ordered a badlands 2800, I think it fits what I am wanting a little better. It should serve me well, from all the info I have got.
