New to muzzleloadin please help!!!!
« on: February 19, 2011, 12:47:14 PM »
I"m a little new to this game I have been archery for about 12 years and we decided to change it up this year. Let me start by saying this is the best hunting sight out there by far the info you guys help out with is awsome. So this is my question I am looking at a Traditions muzzleloader I really like the Buckstalker is this one legal in wash. its mainly the price 169.00 at Cabelas and if not can it be converted over (like change the nipple over to musket) or do I need to look into a different make altogether. Your input will really help me out. Thanks Guys

First welcome to the site.
Judging by the look of that rifle, it doesn't appear that the ignition is exposed to the elements so regardless of whether the ignition could be swapped it is not legal. You need exposed to the elements ignition and you need non-209 ignition. Has to use the right kind of caps.
#10 or #11 I think? Could be wrong on the #10.

10, 11 or musket, is all fine here in washington. Any cap that fits onto the nipple makes the gun legal. But It still has to be exposed to the elements. I do not know that gun and I agree that it does not look to be legal. There might be a kit for it but I am not sure. I would look at the cva elkhorn. Its my go to gun right now. It is not a whole bunch more money and it is legal here.

After looking at that rifle I agree i Dont think its legal. I prefer to hunt with a traditional rifle and I love it. My rifle is the cabelas hawkins style 54. cal 1-48 twist.

Thanks for the info guys. Your right that rifle isn"t legal thats to bad had some really good reviews too. So I decided to spend a little more and get the CVA Elkhorn, I talked to a guy who owns the muzzleloader shop in Puyallup, Very helpfull (wish I remembered the name of the shop) he took the time to answer my questions and told me the Elkhorn is a great rifle. Thanks again and shoot straight
