17oz & can be had for less than $400:

Those rugers are not real comfortable for people with big hands. :twocents:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Who said anything about a bear?

Well he did say he wanted to carry it while hunting and hiking as a safety measure.

I did say that but I didn't say what I could need the protection from. It could be a bear, a cougar, or dare I say... a wolf. I highly doubt I would ever need to use it under those circumstances but even if it just brings me that little bit greater sense of calm out there, it is worth it. I am not one that worries about wild animals attacking me in the woods because I know the odds are slim but crazier things have happened.

So far the consensus seems to be either a Taurus or Ruger. I will have to get on gunbroker and check out some shops to see what is out there

I bought one for the fiancee, fit's her great.  But do yourself a favor and pick up a Hogue grip for it then it should fit you pretty good.(sp101)

The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Take a look at the Ruger P95 in stainless. I carry one all day long with me and the gun will eat any ammo with out a problem. These things are a work horse and can be had for under $400.00 brand new all day long. mine goes with me hunting, hiking, or just out on the town.
