Anyone hunt Forks area?
« on: July 30, 2010, 02:32:17 PM »
i usually hunt down towards Elbe/Morton area but thinking about hitting up the Forks area.  taking a buddy of mine out archery hunting early elk for his first time and thought i'd take a look out there.  Any one got any info on this area as i've not been out there before.  Gonna head out there this weekend and do some "land surveying"  :camp:  :brew:, but have no clue as to a starting point (and i dont mean your honey hole...lol).

thanks in advance....

It's ben along time since you posted but your already in the right direction. Clearwater is the best place you can go, probably has the biggest elk pop on the west end and your chances at a record book bull are the best as well good genes and alot of parkline study your maps and do some land scouting. It will pay off maybe not this year but in years to come.

Hey Pete. Been a long time man. If you need an extra set of eyes up there for scouting i will split gas with ya or something.

Coppermine is a good place to camp. Thats were we stayed last year for the season. You'll want to get in the hills to hunt. But there is great access with lots of closed gates with spurs galore to walk into. Lots of Elk sign, including rutting sign heavily. Wish they would open it for Muzzle loader when the rut is really on!

I heard the indians have been busting through the gates, any truth to this as far as you know?  I love the amount of elk over there but left do to some native activities.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

They do have/had some issues but the "Eyes in the woods" have monitored cameras at most gates. Last year they confinscated a couple quads ect. They watch those gates remotely. And get there fast if someone goes thru. Its a great program. And seems to be helping.
