Found some nice Big Morels today , they will go good with dinner.

Tip for de-worming morels:

Sometimes, morels come with the little white worms, or the worms hatch sometime afterwards and when you go to use them, ewwwww.

There are two methods for dealing with these. One is to give them a salt water bath just before cooking. Any excess moisture will cook off and the salt water kills and washes away the worms.

The next is my favorite pro pickers trick. Take a cooler which has about twice the capacity of the amount of morels you have. Put a lb of dry ice in the bottom covered with at least 4 or 5 layers of newspaper. Put your morels on top of that and close the lid for 30-40 minutes. The worms will suffocate. Then, put your morels in a paper bag and gently roll them around for a minute. The dead worms will fall out and you now have bug-free morels.

Incidentally, burn morels that come up later in June and July are usually bug-free.

Thanks pianoman9701 i do give them a good salt bath , never herd of the dry ice method but will try that . As far as the food Porn with the Elk steak and Morels this is a family site .........lol..............picked about 15lbs today was a good last couple of days for mushrooms.

There really just starting to grow good this year the late warm weather i think is  whats made them later than last year . but there growing just about everywhere ive been .

can anyone give me any general areas on the west side to look for them. Im not looking for honey holes or exact locations,just general general areas. It would be nice to have a few to go with last years deer steaks.

Gregu not really familiar with the westside but look in and around logged areas and anywhere it has burned in the last couple years.
