i went! Snow at 5300'! Massive misquotes and a few elk.

What sort of snow we talking about...like ground covered with snow...a few residual drifts.  Main question is would it be difficult getting around?  Having a snow drift to throw my elk quarters on to help keep them cool would not be a problem.  3 feet of snow that you would sink to your knees with every step might be a problem.

Was wandering the Hindoo's this weekend and the snow is basically gone.  The highest I got was 7400ft and there isn't anything more than some strips of snow in the timber but nothing of any significance.  Couldn't believe all the goats I DIDN'T see!  I think bigfoot ate them all or the mosquito's carried them off

I was up with my wife and kids in the Bumping area just driving around checking it out and seen lot of deer and early morning heard some vocals.  We just went for a drive on Friday since I had the day off and to get out of the valley.  Sounds like this area is going to be a orchestra come a few weeks so you should have some good stories bench beast.

I have a Peaches Ridge tag this year but have hunted the Bumping before.  I set up camp up Blankenship Meadows and hunted Tumac Mt., Twin Sisters Lakes, Pear and Apple Lakes, and all the ridges.  Got into Elk every day!!  Definitely bring a fishing pole, if you fill your tag early.  I used the Indian Creek Trail (I think thats the name) near the very end of the Bumping Lake Road.  I know it is closed now, but if you can get in there you should have a good time.  You can access from Hwy 12 or even the Clover Springs area.

Chinook Pass Outfitters commonly has drop camps in the meadows.

Indian Creek trail comes off of HWY 12.  I think its deep creek trail from the end of Bumping road.

It never fails, plan on going scouting. then I get to work instead of scouting. Looks like my scouting will be durring season.

Took my girls in there backpacking over the weekend.  Went in on the trail west  of the lake, then worked up the ridges to the lakes.  No kidding, the skeeters are very bad.  We would apply the deet every 30 minutes or so, and they would still find places to poke through.  Finally bailed out of the higher country to make camp lower where the infestations were not as bad.  Late snow melt up higher has made for ideal breeding grounds!  No coincidence that we found the elk and sign more prevalent down there as well.  I'm sure the elk will move up the valley's as the season/pressure progresses.

Packing in from a different direction this weekend. Still heading into the backcountry. I figure  I can checkout the easy to get to areas during the season.

from the sounds of IT  you better be SMOKEY THE BEAR. too keep the SKEEETTTERSS  away. good thing you are bigger than me.  it is just another september, remember that units and permits are all BS. THINK OF THIS HUNT LIKE IT IS IN YOUR BACK YARD AND YOU WILL BE  FINE.     j
