Is this an okay unit for cow? Driveable unit? What are the chances? Any suggestions you have will be appreciated.  Thanks, Pig

If you are talking about parking at the gate on the left by Marata creek, I believe that is all private now, last time i was up there it had no trespassing signs up.

I had a master hunter hunt there several years ago. My buddy also had a master hunt this year and the area boarders are now different. The area i hunted, as far as i know, is on longer open. Make sure you check the boundries. There are lots of elk there, find your self a recently logged area where they like to feed. There are lots of logging roads...so bring a bicycle.

the marata creek area is closed to public access now, but just any of the logging roads west of there including the cow creek bear creek and the run away truck ramp would all be good access. also during the late season half of your permit you can access the margret thru the winston unit by driving up the green river. On the weekends during the late season the gates are open. the late season is almost a gaurentee kill on cows in there especially when the early snow pushes them down into the green river valley.

I had this tag last year. Its a great area tons of elk.Do your map work and dont forget to hunt the right side of the 504.The alder trees along the river hold alot of elk.I Burned leather up and down those mountains and came to the conclusion the hunt CAN BE VERY EASY.The best I can give you is have fun trying to get into the cows because the bulls bust you all the time.Hunt the jack firs on the LEFT side of 504 at Castle Lake view point.(on top of the hill) or along the river. Good hunting,I hope this helps you.O DONT TEST THE NEW GUARDS BEHIND THE RED GATES AS*ho*es. And I did get my elk 16 yards on thbe 5th day.

I actually have a cow tag in this unit for muzzleloader this year.  I plan on being done opening day.

Had the archery cow tag last year. Blew my first opertunity opening morning around 900 am. left for lunch blew my second opertunity at about 430pm that same evening. second day seen 6 bulls and no cows called in a dandy 6x. Slept in the third day went to town to dry clothes startet hunting around 300pm cow down by 430pm. lots of elk seen most within 4 miles of the gates all were closed. You should be done opening day unless you have the human error factor I did. Good Luck
Remember that buck is climbing that Mt. every day!
