Scope to Choose, Help

Finally saved enough to get a medium priced scope for my 308 but I am torn between this two, wondering if I could get different opinions from you guys. I did not like the Zeiss or Vortex, Swaro and NF are out of my price range and I don't support Nikon.

leupold has always been a great scope, I would think ziess is really good too but I've had no experience with ziess.  Can't go wrong with a leupold.

Leupold for sure in my book. I don't know about your choice for a 308 though, but it's your choice. Also, with that price you can easily find a comparable Swaro in like New demo condition.

You have the leupold messed up. They don't make a 4.5-16. It would be a  4.5-14 don't know if that matters to you but thought I would let you know. Hands down leupold all the way

Unless your going to use this 308 for LR target and not hunting I think your on the right track. For a hunting rig I think your way over scoping a 308.  For a hunting rig I would find a 1.5x8 Minox, Or 2.5x10 by anyone a better choice for a hunting rig.  Some day your going to have to wade in to the brush to find a poorly hit critter, or have a critter running toward you gobbling up yards by the second and a 20' FOV @100yrds just doesn't cut it at 10ft.  6x-10x Will make a long shot with no problems.

I personally like the 1.5x6 power range for most hunting and use allot of 1x4's for closer cover.  Even my open country coyote rig has a 2.5x10, you never know when a coyote will pop up at your feet even in knee high sage country.

I put a meostar next to a vx3 in the field. During the day the meostar was a little clearer, when the sun went down teh meostar was kicking the crap out of the vx3.

Are you set on the 30mm tube and high mag range for way long range shooting?
What kind of set up are we talking about here heavy gun with a 20moa mount and bipod or a climing hills hunting rig?

I'd go with the Leupold, but I wonder what makes you want the VXL? I thought I would want the VXL as well, but what I realized is that if I were to put that on and make it worth having the cutout on the bottom, it makes the scope lower than I would want for my eye level. Have you tested this on your gun? Just don't want you to go buy the VXL, pay the extra money for it, and then have it hanging up in the air where there is no point to have the cutout on the bottom. Might wanna check into it if you haven't just to make sure you are happy with your decision. Just my  . Good luck with whatever you go with. Leupold is local and quality for me, so it is a no brainer for me. I just got a VX3 6-20 X 50 with Target turrets. Had the custom shop build me a turret and it is one sweet setup.

Check out the Bushnell Elite also. I have a Leupold VXII & an Elite 3200 & both are descent glass.

My meat gun is a 300wsm with a Leupy European 4-12x40, my coyote rig is a RRA with a 7.62x39  20" upper topped with a Leupy VXII 3-9x40. I want to make the .308 a "tactical" kind of rig for long range shooting only.

Nikon makes the glass for Leupold from I've heard. I could be wrong; I thought I was once but I was mistaken!

For the money , Vortex is the way to go. I have been a die hare Leupold guy for 25+ years but its hard to beat Vortex offering a 30mm main tube, 50mm objective and their clarity along with very accurate repeatability on their target knobs. All for around $400.00 bucks! On the Viper line. I will be picking up A PST fairly soon to test out to 1K. If it's repeatable target knob wise, $750.00 sure beats Leupolds 1200.00+ for the some offering/options. The almost two for one is attractive.
