I don't think there was ever a time when bucks like that were a "dime a dozen".  I started hunting in Utah in 1962 and , yes, there were some big bucks around.  BUT, after years of liberal doe hunts and several hard winters, the deer herd was severely depleted.  I give the game people there credit in that they severely restricted the doe hunts, cut back on the hunting days and did a pretty fair job of bringing the herds back.  I can show you some pic's of hunts we had there with a pickup full of bucks, but is wasnt like there was one behind every tree.  You had to hunt just as hard then as you do now.  (Even though Wolfes sporting goods store had a big buck contest every year and consistently one of the top 5 bucks was taken by some rookie who stumbled on one-usually took at least a 38" buck to get in the top 5-winner got a new jeep) Nice rack for sure, I'd have happily shot him back then.
