Bumping Lake
« on: June 20, 2008, 10:01:05 AM »
Going camping here next weekend.  Does anyone know much about the fishing there?  Regs say you can chum, don't know if that is necessary or helpful.  Anyhow without any advice I'll just be slow trolling (paddling a canoe) with a worm.  Any spots in the lake or bait favorites are appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Most of the fishing in there is for kokanee, so you may not do too well trolling a worm. Altough I suppose there probably are some rainbows in there. The chumming is what a lot of guys do when fishing for kokanee.

Just spent Tuesday & Wednesday there and had a great time. The wind was blowing the whole time, hard enough that you couldn't of taken a canoe out on the lake at all. Very choppy. I fish the other end of the lake and do well for trout and kokanee. I've been going ten years and love the area for hunting, fishing and family fun. If I was going canoe fishing I would head from boat launch / camp ground and go along the shore counter clockwise. Nice down there with a stream coming into lake about 3/4 mile down. Lots of stumps and fish in there. I have never caught a single fish by the dam, campground or anywhere down at that end of the lake. I troll spoons, but with a canoe I would use floating rapala. It would dive nice while paddling but float up when stopped. Good luck.

I used to fish there often but haven't for awhile now. We didn't do anything special but troll spinners, super dupers and flatfish and we would knock em dead! Some of the largest fish I had seen there however where in the outlet of the lake in the first hole! hard to get em to bite!!!!!

Thanks for the responses guys.  We are leaving tomorrow AM and come back Sunday.  Me and my buddy would like to catch some fish.  I got a recipe for chumming and am going to try some of your suggestions.  I'd really like my two youngsters (just 2 and almost 4) to catch some, but we'll see how their patience is.  My little girl has decided she is going to call the fish in so I am looking forward to that.
