Rut in September?
« on: September 19, 2011, 08:05:30 PM »
only had this weekend to hunt deer. work has been crazy and cant find the time. i knew a feild that had 30 or 40 deer in it all day and knew that with out having time to scout it was my best chance for a deer. with the freezer getting low, i told the land owner that was iffy on me hunting there because he wants the bucks for his rifle season that i was just looking for a doe for the freezer. he gave me permission but said does only, no bucks.

Saturday, the only deer i had in range where bucks :bash: a couple of realy nice ones at that. i went back in sunday in a differant spot in the feild and had a doe step out at 21 yards with two bucks. one was a really nice 4 point that was maybe 115 and a two point. i couldnt shoot her cuz the 4 point kept sniffin the doe and pushin her around. look like he was getting worked up too cuz he kept running the two point off. Well he ran him off one to many times and gave me my shot on the doe. bthe freezer is no longer empty

My question is, is it early for rutting activity like this? ive only hunted deer for 7 years and its mostly early september or late season and miss out on alot of the rutting action. is this normal or maybe a fluke? :dunno:

This morning a buddy and I were watching 3 deer about a mile away, too far to see antlers with our binocs.  one of the deer kept chasing another one away, and finally the lone deer wandered off by himself.  We figured it was the start of the rut action.  Earliest I've seen it, too.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"
