Need Help with early Youth Pheasant hunt
« on: September 20, 2011, 01:39:10 PM »
I know this is kind of a late last minute request...All my kids are grown and moved away....  so just to be able to run my dogs and get kid's started into bird hunting..  for the last 5-6- years I've been taking out other peoples kid's. For the last 3 years I've been taking one youth that totaly fell in love with the sport. I could kick myself in the butt for not paying attention to this years date...  I really thought that it stated later than this coming week-end. I'm a member of a local gun dog club here in the area, and this week-end I pre-commited to help run a HRC and APLA hunt tests.    Long story short, I young man I talking about moved away from the area about a month or so ago, and is now living in the Snohomish  area. Today I recieved a phone call from him saying he really would like to go out with my dogs and myself this week-end...  he was willing to take a train ride over here to Spokane then have a family friend here from around Colville come and pick him up at the train station, then I would pick him up in the mornings to take him hunting....  I almost cried when I heard the disappointment in his voice when I told him I had compleatly forgoten the dates and already had commitments for the week-end. Kieon is an awesome kid, very respectfull...  fact even though I'm already old...  everytime he said "Yes Sir/ No sir" to me it made me feel older so asked him to just call me by my first name. He is a good all around hunter, and very safety minded...  I trust him shooting over my dogs any time.

What I'm looking for is anyone that has some good dogs to hunt over, and has some free time this week-end to spend with a young hunter. I'll flip for the prise of gas or anything else you may need help with. I know anyone will enjoy his company...   beside's hunting, he's on the Football, and wrestling team. I doubt it really matters to where in the state you are...  figure if he was willing to hop a train to come all the way over here...   he'd be willing to go anywhere. If anyone can help at all please PM me.......  Thanks for at least taking time to read this. Our future in hunting depends on our youth of today, and I really feel terrible for not being able to take him out myself... This will NEVER happen again.         Wayne

I take them to a release site here in the area.... and is a shame when all we ever see is maybe 3-4 other youth's also hunting..  Guess it's good for us as we have more birds to hunt...  but bad for the sport that more hunters are not taking advantage of it by taking thier kids out.

Wish I would have seen this post earlier, I have a couple kennel monsters dying to get out and I would have loved to get some kids in the field.  Keep me in mind for the general season as I would love to get some kids out as mine are also grown and gone and I believe as you said they are the future for all of us as hunters.
